The Death of John the Baptist

2 And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. References John: Matthew 16:14

5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophetProphet: προφήτης (Prophētēs). The Greek prophētēs (προφήτης) denotes a prophet—one who speaks forth God's message. 8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heavenHeaven: οὐρανός (Ouranos). The Greek ouranos (οὐρανός) denotes heaven—God's throne and the believer's eternal home. Jesus taught His disciples to pray 'Our Father which art in heaven' (Matthew 6:9) and promised to prepare a place there (John 14:2)., he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 28 And Peter answered him and said, LordLord: Κύριος (Kurios). The Greek Kurios (Κύριος) means 'lord' or 'master,' used both for human masters and divinely for God the Father and Jesus Christ. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, saveSave: σῴζω (Sozo). The Greek sozo (σῴζω) means to save—deliverance from sin, death, and judgment. 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved' (Acts 16:31).
