Matthew 7
Judging Others
Judge not, that ye be not judged. Judgment: Matthew 7:2, Luke 6:37. Parallel theme: Matthew 7:5, Isaiah 66:5, Luke 6:41, James 3:1
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Judgment: James 2:13. Parallel theme: Judges 1:7, Obadiah 1:15, Mark 4:24, Luke 6:38, 2 Corinthians 9:6, Revelation 18:6 +2
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. Holy: Hebrews 10:29. Parallel theme: Matthew 15:26, 24:10, Proverbs 11:22, 23:9, 26:11, Philippians 3:2, Hebrews 6:6, 2 Peter 2:22 +4
Ask, Seek, Knock
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Parallel theme: Matthew 6:33, 7:8, 21:22, Proverbs 8:17, Jeremiah 33:3, Mark 11:24, John 15:7, 15:16, Hebrews 11:6, 1 John 3:22 +5
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Parallel theme: Psalms 81:10, 81:16, Acts 9:11
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
The Narrow Gate
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Parallel theme: Matthew 3:2, 3:8, 23:13, Proverbs 9:6, 16:25, Isaiah 55:7, John 10:9, 14:6, Galatians 5:24, Revelation 20:15 +5
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Parallel theme: Matthew 20:16, 22:14, Proverbs 8:20, Isaiah 30:21, 35:8, Jeremiah 6:16, Mark 8:34, John 16:33, Acts 14:22, Romans 12:2 +5
A Tree and Its Fruit
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Prophecy: Matthew 24:11, Micah 3:11, Luke 6:26, 1 John 4:1, Revelation 19:20. Parallel theme: Ephesians 4:14, Colossians 2:8, 2 Timothy 3:13, 2 Peter 3:17, Jude 1:4 +5
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Parallel theme: Matthew 7:20, 12:33, James 3:12
Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Good: Ephesians 5:9, Colossians 1:10. Parallel theme: Psalms 1:3, Isaiah 61:3, Jeremiah 11:19, 17:8, Philippians 1:11, Jude 1:12 +3
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Parallel theme: Galatians 5:17
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Good: Matthew 3:10, Luke 3:9. Parallel theme: Isaiah 27:11, Hebrews 6:8, Jude 1:12
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
True Disciples
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? References Lord: Matthew 7:21, 25:11, Isaiah 2:11, 2:17, 2 Timothy 4:8. Parallel theme: Matthew 24:36, Numbers 24:4, John 11:51, 1 Thessalonians 5:4, 2 Timothy 1:12 +5
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The Wise and Foolish Builders
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Parallel theme: 1 Corinthians 3:13
And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: Parallel theme: Matthew 22:33, Mark 1:22, 6:2, Luke 4:22, 4:32, John 7:15, 7:46 +2
For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Parallel theme: Isaiah 50:4, Luke 20:8
