1 And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the LORDLord: יְהוָה / אֲדֹנָי (YHWH / Adonai). 4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altarAltar: מִזְבֵּחַ (Mizbeach). The Hebrew mizbeach (מִזְבֵּחַ) means altar—from the root 'to slaughter.' Altars were places where sacrifices were offered to God, pointing forward to Christ's ultimate sacrifice. under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 6 And Moses took half of the bloodBlood: דָּם (Dam). The Hebrew dam (דָּם) means blood—representing life itself. 'The life of the flesh is in the blood' (Leviticus 17:11), and blood was required for atonement, foreshadowing Christ's sacrifice., and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.
