A New Commandment

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Jesus gives His disciples a new standard for love—to love as He has loved them.

This commandment is new not in requiring love, but in its standard: loving as Jesus loved. His love was sacrificial, humble, serving, and unconditional. This radical love would distinguish His followers from the world and demonstrate their genuine discipleship.

Ask yourself: Am I loving others with the same sacrificial, humble, serving love that Jesus showed me?

Prayer

Jesus, You have loved me with perfect love. Empower me to love others with that same selfless, sacrificial love. Amen.
