Love

Love's True Character

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

1 Corinthians 13:4

· · ·

Paul defines love not as a feeling but as a series of deliberate actions and attitudes.

True love is patient in difficult circumstances and kind in response to others. It does not envy what others have or boast about what we possess. This description of love stands in stark contrast to our natural tendencies toward impatience, harshness, jealousy, and pride.

Choose one aspect of love from this verse—patience, kindness, or humility—and intentionally practice it in your relationships today.

Lord, mold my heart to reflect Your love. Make me patient when I want to react, kind when I want to judge, and humble when I want to boast. Amen.
