But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Speaking truth in love, we grow into spiritual maturity with Christ as our head.
Paul describes maturity as growing up into Christ in every way. This growth happens in community as we speak truth in love to one another. Truth without love is harsh; love without truth is permissive. Together, they create an environment where we grow toward Christ, who is the head. Every part of the body works properly when each does its part.
For Today
Speak a truth in love to someone today that will help them grow, or receive truth from someone else with humility.
Prayer
Jesus, help me grow up into You in every way. Give me courage to speak truth in love and humility to receive it. Unite Your body. Amen.
