James reveals that steadfastness has a purpose—to produce maturity. The testing of our faith develops perseverance, and perseverance must finish its work so we may be complete and lacking nothing. This is the path to spiritual maturity: not avoiding trials but allowing them to do their perfecting work. God uses difficulties to shape us into Christ's image.

In the midst of a current trial, ask God what perseverance and maturity He wants to develop through it.
Prayer
Lord, let perseverance finish its work in me. Use trials to make me mature and complete, lacking nothing. Give me patience with Your process. Amen.
