When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
We gain wisdom both from instruction and from observing consequences.
When scorners face punishment, even the simple learn caution. When the wise receive instruction, they gain knowledge readily. This verse shows two paths to learning: the hard way through experiencing consequences, or the wise way through receiving teaching. Wise people learn from both instruction and observation.

Prayer
Lord, make me wise enough to learn from instruction and observation. Spare me from unnecessary painful lessons. Amen.
