Jesus The Twelve Disciples Peter Judas

Jesus knew something the disciples didn't know. He knew He would soon die. This would be His last meal with His friends.

They were eating the Passover dinner together. But then Jesus did something VERY surprising.

He got up from the table, took off His outer robe, and wrapped a towel around His waist. He poured water in a bowl and started washing the disciples' FEET!

In those days, people wore sandals on dusty, dirty roads. Washing feet was a gross job—usually done by servants! But here was JESUS, the Son of God, doing it!

Peter said, 'No way, Lord! You can't wash MY feet!'

Jesus said, 'If I don't wash you, you can't be part of what I'm doing.'

'Then wash my hands and head too!' Peter said.

When Jesus finished, He explained: 'I'm your Teacher and Lord, and I washed your feet. You should serve each other the same way. I'm showing you how to be humble and loving.'

Then Jesus picked up some bread. He thanked God, broke it, and gave pieces to everyone.

'This bread is like My body, which will be broken for you. Whenever you eat it, remember Me.'

Then He took a cup of wine. 'This cup represents My blood, which will be poured out for you. It starts a new promise between God and His people.'

This is why Christians take communion today—to remember what Jesus did for us!
