Biography
The younger twin son of Isaac, Jacob obtained Esau's birthright and stole his blessing through deception. Fleeing his brother's anger, Jacob encountered God at Bethel and later wrestled with God, receiving the name Israel. He fathered twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. Despite his flawed character, God chose Jacob to continue the covenant line.
Jacob (Israel) is the father of the twelve tribes and represents God's electing grace despite human unworthiness.
