Jehoiakim
Generation 11 from Adam
Biography
Originally named Eliakim, the son of Josiah who was placed on Judah's throne by Pharaoh Neco and renamed Jehoiakim. He was a wicked king who oppressed the people, built extravagant palaces with forced labor, and burned Jeremiah's scroll. He rebelled against Babylon, leading to Jerusalem's first deportation. He died in disgrace.
Jehoiakim exemplifies arrogant rejection of God's word and the futility of resisting God's judgment, as his defiance only hastened Judah's destruction.
